Overstaying is costly
Peru fines overstayers approximately 50 PEN per day (about £10). You must pay at the immigration office before leaving the country. Avoid it by leaving before day 180 or applying for a visa extension if you have a special reason (though extensions are not normally granted for tourists).
Keep the stamped entry slip
Immigration will give you a small white slip after they stamp your passport. Keep it with your passport at all times — you may need to show it when leaving. Losing it means extra paperwork and a fine (around 20 PEN).

Queue at Migraciones
After landing at Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM) in Lima, follow signs to 'Migraciones' (Immigration). Join the 'Extranjeros' (Foreigners) queue. There's usually a separate line for 'Todos los Pasaportes'.

Hand over your passport
When it's your turn, hand your passport to the officer. They'll scan it, check your face, and stamp your entry. No forms to fill or fees to pay. It takes about 30 seconds per person.

Collect your luggage and clear customs
After immigration, head to baggage claim, then customs. There's a 'nothing to declare' channel if you have nothing to declare. A random bag scan happens occasionally.
