Passport validity
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of arrival in Qatar. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Outbound travel proof
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight itinerary ready. Without one, you risk being refused entry.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter from your Qatari host. Immigration may ask where you are staying — having proof avoids delays at the counter.Recommended
Proof of funds
Financial means
Officers rarely ask, but have a bank statement or credit card showing you can cover your stay. No fixed amount is published — just show you are not travelling broke.Recommended
e-gates for British passport holders
At Hamad International Airport, British passport holders can use e-gates for immigration — no queue at manned booths. Just scan your passport. This works for arrivals and departures.
Passport validity is strict
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your entry date. Airlines check before boarding — if it expires sooner, you will be denied boarding even with a visa. No exceptions.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Hamad International Airport
After landing, follow signs for 'Visa on Arrival' or 'Arrivals'. Counters are in the main arrivals hall, before baggage claim. There are separate lanes for GCC residents and other nationalities — join the 'All Passports' queue if you are a standard British passport holder.
2
Present your documents at the visa counter
Hand over your passport, return ticket (printed or on your phone), and accommodation booking. The officer will process your visa — it is free and takes about 2–5 minutes. You will receive a sticker in your passport and an entry stamp.
3
Proceed to immigration and collect your bags
After the visa counter, go to the immigration e-gates or manned booths. British passports are eligible for e-gates — just scan your passport and proceed. Then collect your luggage and exit.
