UK passport holders need an eVisa to enter Syria in 2026. Apply online before you travel. Your passport must be valid for at least six months from your arrival date.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
You need an eVisa to enter Syria. Apply through the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs portal at mfa.gov.sy. Processing times vary — apply at least 2 weeks before your trip. Print the approval and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of stay
Your UK passport must be valid for the entire period you plan to stay in Syria. Syria does not enforce a 6-month validity rule, but airlines may check for at least 3 months beyond your departure date.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration at Damascus Airport will ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or a digital booking ready. Airlines also check this before boarding.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host. Immigration may ask where you are staying, especially if you arrive without a pre-booked hotel.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have bank statements or cash available to show you can cover your stay. Syria is a cash economy — bring enough US dollars or euros to exchange on arrival. Credit cards are rarely accepted outside major hotels.Recommended
No visa on arrival
You cannot get a visa at the airport or land border. The eVisa must be approved and printed before you travel. Arriving without one means you'll be refused entry and sent back on the next flight.
Passport validity counts from arrival
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the day you enter Syria, not your departure date. If it expires sooner, renew it before applying.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to the official Syrian eVisa portal (no third-party sites). Fill in your details, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee online. Processing takes 3–7 working days.
2
Print your eVisa approval
Once approved, you'll receive a PDF. Print at least two copies — one to hand over at immigration, one as backup. Keep a digital copy on your phone too.
3
Arrive at Damascus or Aleppo airport
Most flights land at Damascus International Airport. At immigration, present your passport, printed eVisa, and return ticket. They may ask for your accommodation address. The process is straightforward if you have all documents ready.
4
Collect your passport stamp
The officer will stamp your passport and return it. Check the stamp for the entry date and any handwritten validity. Keep the eVisa copy with your passport during your stay.
