Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the entire duration of your stay in Kazakhstan. No specific minimum validity period is required beyond your departure date, but airlines may enforce 6 months — check with your carrier.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of exit
Immigration officers at Almaty and Nur-Sultan airports routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation
Carry a hotel reservation or a notarized invitation letter from your host in Kazakhstan. Officers may ask for it at the border, especially if you're staying with friends or family.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show sufficient cash or card
Have at least the equivalent of $50 USD per day of stay available in cash, bank statement, or credit card. Immigration rarely checks this for short visits, but it's safer to have proof.Recommended
Print your eVisa — digital copies won't work
Immigration officers at Astana and Almaty airports need to scan the barcode on a printed copy. A screenshot or PDF on your phone is not accepted. Print it in color before you leave.
Register within 5 days if not staying in a hotel
Hotels register you automatically. If you're staying with friends or in a private rental, you must go to the local migration police office within 5 days of arrival. Your host can accompany you. Fines for missing this are around 20,000 KZT (about $45 USD).

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to evisa.e-gov.kz, create an account, fill in your details, upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $80 USD) with a credit card. Processing takes 5–10 business days.
2
Receive and print your eVisa approval
You'll get an email with your eVisa approval letter. Print it in color — immigration at Astana or Almaty airport will check it before they stamp your passport.
3
Arrive at the airport in Kazakhstan
At passport control, hand over your passport and the printed eVisa. The officer will scan the barcode and stamp you in. Have your return ticket and hotel booking ready in case they ask.
4
Register with local authorities (if staying more than 5 days)
Your hotel will handle this automatically. If you're staying with friends or in a private apartment, you must register at the local migration police office within 5 days of arrival. Failing to do so can result in a fine on departure.
