Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay
Your Ghanaian passport needs at least 6 months of validity remaining from your date of entry into Mauritius. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Mauritius
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. A flight booking out of Mauritius within 90 days of arrival satisfies this requirement. Without one, you risk being refused entry.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a hotel reservation, guesthouse booking, or a letter of invitation from your host in Mauritius ready. Officers may ask for it at the border, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Carry evidence of enough funds to cover your expenses — around 3,000 Mauritian rupees per day (roughly $70 USD) is a safe benchmark. A bank statement or credit card showing available credit works.Recommended
Keep digital copies of everything
Save photos of your passport, return ticket, and hotel booking on your phone. If you lose your documents, these copies make replacement much easier.
Overstaying is costly
Mauritius takes overstays seriously. You could be fined, detained, or banned from re-entering. Set a calendar reminder to leave a few days before your 90 days are up.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU)
After landing, follow signs to 'Arrivals' and join the queue for 'Foreign Passports'. Have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation proof ready. The officer will stamp your passport for up to 90 days.
2
Proceed to baggage claim and customs
After immigration, collect your luggage from the carousel. Customs is usually a green channel for most tourists — just walk through unless you have something to declare.
3
Exit the airport
Once through customs, you're free to leave. Taxis and ride-hailing apps are available outside. Keep your passport and entry stamp accessible for hotel check-in.
