Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel

Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your Ghanaian passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Romania. Schengen rules do not require 6 months beyond departure, but your airline may enforce it — check with them before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of exit from Schengen
Immigration officers at Romanian airports check for a return or onward ticket leaving the Schengen area within your allowed stay. Budget airlines often verify this at check-in.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host ready. Border officers occasionally ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry bank statements or a credit card showing access to at least €50 per day of your stay. Officers rarely ask, but it helps if questioned.Recommended
Apply early — processing takes time
The Romanian e-Visa can take up to 15 working days. Don't book non-refundable flights until you have the visa in hand.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save your visa approval, flight tickets, and accommodation confirmations as PDFs on your phone and email. If you lose the printed copies, you can still show them.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the e-Visa online
Go to evisa.mae.ro, create an account, fill in the application, upload your passport scan, photo, travel itinerary, and accommodation proof. Pay the fee (around €80 for a short-stay visa). Processing takes 5–15 working days.
2
Receive your visa approval
You'll get an email with your visa decision. If approved, print the visa document and carry it with your passport. The visa is usually valid for 90 days within a 180-day period.
3
Arrive at Romanian border control
At the airport (usually Henri Coandă International Airport in Bucharest), join the 'All Passports' queue. Hand over your passport and printed visa. The officer may ask for your return ticket and accommodation. Answer clearly. They'll stamp you in.
