Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your entire stay in Uganda
Your passport needs at least one blank page for the entry stamp. Uganda does not require 6 months of validity beyond your departure date — just enough to cover your stay. Airlines sometimes enforce the 6-month rule, so check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Uganda
Immigration officers at Entebbe Airport routinely ask for a confirmed onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight out of Uganda ready. Overland exit plans are not accepted — you need a flight booking.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers may ask where you are staying, especially if you arrive without a pre-booked hotel. A printed booking confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and phone number works. Not always checked, but saves time if asked.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Immigration can request evidence of sufficient funds — roughly $200–$300 USD per week of your stay. A recent bank statement or a credit card with a decent limit usually satisfies them. Cash in USD is also accepted.Recommended
Visa-free, but still need documents
Even though you don't need a visa, immigration may ask for your return ticket and proof of accommodation. Have them ready on your phone or printed.
Yellow fever vaccine required
Uganda requires proof of yellow fever vaccination for entry. Without it, you may be quarantined or denied entry. Get the vaccine at least 10 days before travel.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Entebbe International Airport
Most flights land at Entebbe (EBB). Follow signs to 'Arrivals' and join the queue for foreign passport holders. Have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation details ready.
2
Present documents at immigration counter
Hand over your passport and any requested documents. The officer will verify your visa-free status, stamp your passport, and you're in. This usually takes 2-5 minutes.
3
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. You're free to enter Uganda.
