Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Greek passport needs to be valid only for the period you plan to stay in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Airlines may enforce a 3-month validity rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required

Immigration officers at Sarajevo and Banja Luka airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host. Border officers occasionally ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Have at least €100 per day of your stay available in cash or on a card. Officers rarely check this for Greek passport holders, but it's wise to carry a bank statement or credit card.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Border officers will check that your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your entry date. If it's even a day short, you'll be refused entry. No exceptions.
Land border crossings can be slow
In summer, queues at the Croatia-Bosnia border (especially Neum and Metković) can take 1-2 hours. Plan extra time if driving.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare documents before departure
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date). Book your return/onward ticket and first night accommodation. Save screenshots or PDFs on your phone.
2
Arrive at border crossing
At Sarajevo Airport, Mostar Airport, or any land border from Croatia/Montenegro/Serbia, join the 'All Passports' queue. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
3
Present documents to border officer
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask your purpose of visit, length of stay, and where you're staying. Answer briefly and honestly. They may ask to see your return ticket or accommodation confirmation.
4
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date. Check the stamp is legible before walking away. You're allowed up to 90 days from that date.

If you're staying in a hotel, they handle registration automatically. If you're staying with friends or family, your host must register you at the local police station within 48 hours of your arrival. Failure to do so can result in fines.
