Greek passport holders can travel to Latvia visa-free for short stays. As of 2026, you can enter and stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period for tourism, business, or family visits. No visa application is needed, but you must meet standard entry requirements.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for entire stay in Latvia
Your Greek passport needs to be valid for the full duration of your stay in Latvia. Since Latvia is part of the Schengen zone, you get 90 days within any 180-day period across all Schengen countries — not just Latvia. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by law, but airlines sometimes ask for 3 months.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Schengen area
Immigration at Riga Airport will ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone within your 90-day visa-free limit. Budget airlines check this before boarding. A bus ticket to a non-Schengen country works too.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you're staying. Have a hotel confirmation, Airbnb booking, or a letter from a friend with their address ready. I've been asked for this at Riga Airport maybe half the time.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Latvia can ask for proof of sufficient funds — roughly €100 per day of stay. A bank statement or credit card with a decent limit usually satisfies them. I've never actually been asked, but carry a printout just in case.Recommended
90/180 day rule applies across Schengen
Your 90-day visa-free allowance is for the entire Schengen area, not just Latvia. If you've already spent time in France, Germany, or any other Schengen country, that time counts toward your 90-day limit. Use the EU's short-stay calculator to track your days.
Border checks may still happen
Although Latvia is in Schengen, random police checks occur, especially near the borders with Lithuania and Estonia. Always carry your passport and proof of onward travel. Fines for not having ID can be up to €200.

What happens at the border

1
Arrival at Riga Airport (RIX) or border crossing
Most travelers fly into Riga International Airport. After landing, follow signs to 'Passport Control' (non-EU queue). Have your passport ready. The officer will check your passport validity, may ask about your trip purpose, accommodation, and return ticket. Answer briefly and honestly. You'll get an entry stamp valid for up to 90 days.
2
If arriving by land from another Schengen country
There are no routine border checks between Schengen countries. However, random police checks can happen, especially near the Lithuanian or Estonian borders. Carry your passport and proof of onward travel at all times.
3
During your stay
You can move freely within Latvia and other Schengen countries for up to 90 days total. Keep your passport and a copy of your accommodation booking with you. If stopped by police, you must show ID.
