30 days is a hard limit
Your visa-free stay is exactly 30 days. There's no extension process. Mark your departure date on your calendar and book your outbound flight before you arrive to avoid overstay fines.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines check your passport validity before boarding. If you have less than 6 months left, you won't even get on the plane. Double-check your passport's expiry date now.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before you fly
Check your passport validity (6 months) and blank pages. Print or download your return ticket, hotel booking, and any proof of funds. Keep them in your carry-on.
2
Fill out the arrival card (if given)
On the plane or at the airport, you may receive a small arrival card. Fill it out with your name, passport number, flight number, and address in Azerbaijan. If not offered, don't worry — it's not always required.
3
Go through passport control at Baku Heydar Aliyev International Airport
Join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Hand over your passport and any requested documents. The officer will check your details, stamp your passport, and wave you through. This usually takes 2–5 minutes.
4
Collect your bags and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim, then customs (green channel if nothing to declare). You're free to enter Azerbaijan.

Frequently asked questions

No. The visa-free entry is not extendable. You must leave before 30 days are up. Overstaying can result in fines and possible entry bans. If you need to stay longer, you'd have to leave and re-enter, but that's not guaranteed to reset the clock — best to plan your trip within 30 days.
No, not for Hong Kong passport holders under the visa-free regime. Some nationalities must register within 15 days, but you don't need to do anything extra. Just keep your hotel booking as proof of where you're staying.
No. The rule is clear: your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of arrival. If it's shorter, you'll be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry at the border. Renew your passport before you travel.
Yes, the same visa-free rule applies at land borders. You'll go through the same passport control process at the border crossing. Just have your documents ready and be prepared for longer queues than at the airport.
No, there's no fee for the visa-free entry itself. You just show your passport and get stamped. However, if you're asked to pay anything at the border, that's not official — report it to your embassy.
You can't extend the visa-free period. If you know you'll need more than 30 days, you should apply for a visa at an Azerbaijani embassy or consulate before you travel. That's a separate process and takes time, so plan ahead.
As of 2026, there are no COVID-related entry requirements for Azerbaijan. No tests, no vaccination certificates. But always check the latest updates from the Azerbaijani embassy or your airline closer to your travel date, as rules can change.
