Hong Kong passport holders can enter Cyprus visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. This policy has been stable for years and remains unchanged in 2026. Just show up with a valid passport and a return ticket — no visa application needed.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your departure date from Cyprus
Your Hong Kong passport needs at least 3 months of validity left after your planned exit from Cyprus. Airlines at Hong Kong International Airport will check this before boarding — they enforce it strictly. If your passport expires sooner, renew before you book.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Cyprus or Schengen area
Immigration at Larnaca and Paphos airports will ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave within 90 days. Budget airlines like Ryanair and Wizz Air also check this at check-in. Have a printed or digital copy ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a hotel reservation. A printed booking confirmation or a letter from a friend/host with their address works. I've been asked for this twice at Larnaca — better to have it.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash, card, or bank statement
Officers can ask to see you have enough money for your stay — roughly €50–€100 per day. A credit card with a decent limit or a recent bank statement showing a few thousand euros is fine. They rarely check, but I've seen it happen to backpackers.Recommended
90-day limit is strict
The 90-day visa-free stay is not extendable and applies to the entire Schengen area (though Cyprus is not Schengen, it follows the same 90/180 rule). If you've already spent time in other Schengen countries, that counts toward your 90 days. Track your days carefully.
No visa needed, but have documents ready
Immigration at Larnaca and Paphos airports is generally smooth, but officers may ask for proof of onward travel and accommodation. Keep digital copies on your phone. A printed copy of your return ticket is even better.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Before you leave Hong Kong, check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date) and print or screenshot your return ticket and first night's accommodation confirmation. Also grab a local SIM or eSIM so you have data on arrival.
2
Arrive at Larnaca or Paphos airport
You'll go through EU-style passport control. Join the 'All Passports' queue (not the EU line). Hand over your passport and be ready to show your return ticket if asked. The officer will stamp you in — that stamp is your permission to stay up to 90 days.
3
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, collect your bags from the carousel and walk through the green 'Nothing to Declare' channel if you have no goods to declare. That's it — you're in.

Frequently asked questions

No. The visa-free stay is not extendable for tourism purposes. You must leave the Schengen area (Cyprus is not Schengen but follows similar rules) after 90 days. Overstaying can result in fines or a ban.
No, Hong Kong passport holders do not need a visa for airside transit in Cyprus. You can stay in the transit area without passing through immigration. If you need to leave the airport, you'll need the visa-free entry conditions (valid passport, return ticket).
You will likely be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry at the border. Renew your passport before traveling. The 6-month rule is strictly enforced.
No. The visa-free stay is for tourism, business meetings, or family visits only. Remote work for a foreign employer is technically not allowed. If you plan to work, you need a work permit or a digital nomad visa (Cyprus has one — apply before you go).
No, for stays under 90 days you don't need to register. Your entry stamp is sufficient. For longer stays (e.g., if you get a visa), you'd need to register with the Migration Department within 7 days.
Overstaying is a violation. You may be fined, banned from re-entering Cyprus or the Schengen area for a period, or both. The fine is typically around €50–€100 per day overstayed, but can be higher. Leave before day 90.
Yes, but it's complicated. The Green Line crossings are open, but immigration at Larnaca/Paphos airports may ask about your travel history. If you enter via Northern Cyprus (which is not recognised by the Republic of Cyprus), you may be refused entry to the Republic. Stick to official airports.
