Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your entire stay in Dominica
Your Hong Kong passport needs at least one blank page for the entry stamp. Dominica does not enforce a 6-month validity rule — your passport just needs to be valid for the duration of your stay.Required
Return or onward ticket
Immigration may ask for proof of departure
Carry a printed or digital copy of your onward ticket out of Dominica. Airlines at check-in in Hong Kong will also ask for this before letting you board.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a confirmed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Dominica. Immigration officers occasionally ask for this at the border.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during the stay
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing access to at least $500 USD for your stay. Immigration may ask for this if you look like you might work illegally.Recommended
No visa needed — but don't skip the basics
You don't need a visa, but immigration still checks your passport validity, return ticket, and sometimes accommodation. Have all documents ready to avoid delays.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date. If it's close to expiring, renew it before you book your flight. You will be refused entry otherwise.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Before you fly, check your passport is valid for 6+ months from your arrival date. Book a return or onward ticket. Save a screenshot of your booking confirmation and accommodation details on your phone.
2
Arrive at Dominica's airport
You'll land at Douglas-Charles Airport (DOM) or Canefield Airport (DCF). Follow signs to the immigration hall. There are usually two queues: one for citizens/residents and one for visitors. Join the visitors queue.
3
Present your passport and documents
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask for your return ticket and accommodation details. Answer clearly. They'll stamp you in for up to 180 days. The whole process usually takes 5-10 minutes.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, head to baggage claim, then customs. Declare any restricted items. Once through, you're free to enter Dominica.

Frequently asked questions

No. The visa-free entry is for a maximum of 180 days and cannot be extended. If you want to stay longer, you'd need to leave and re-enter, or apply for a longer-term visa from the Dominica Immigration Department in Roseau before your 180 days are up.
No. There is no online arrival declaration or pre-registration required for Hong Kong passport holders. You just show up with your passport and documents.
You will be denied entry. The rule is strict — your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you enter Dominica. Renew your passport before you travel.
No. The visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, and short visits only. If you plan to work, study, or volunteer, you need to apply for the appropriate visa or work permit from the Dominica Immigration Department before you travel.
The official currency is the Eastern Caribbean dollar (XCD). US dollars are widely accepted, but you'll get change in XCD. ATMs are available in Roseau and larger towns, but they can run out of cash. Bring some US dollars or XCD in cash for smaller shops and taxis.
No mandatory vaccinations for entry, but yellow fever vaccination is required if you're arriving from a country with yellow fever. It's a good idea to be up to date on routine vaccines (MMR, tetanus, etc.). Check with your doctor 4-6 weeks before travel.
Overstaying is taken seriously. You may face fines, detention, and a ban from re-entering Dominica. If you need to stay longer, leave before the 180 days are up or apply for an extension well in advance.
