Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your stay in Estonia
Your Hong Kong passport needs at least 3 months of validity remaining after your departure date from Estonia. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the Schengen area
Immigration officers at Tallinn Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone within 90 days. Budget airlines (Ryanair, Wizz Air) also check this at check-in.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host ready. Border officers sometimes ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Carry at least €100 per day of your stay in cash or on a card you can access. Officers ask for this less often, but it helps if you look under-prepared.Recommended
Schengen Area rules apply
Estonia is part of the Schengen Area. Your 90-day visa-free stay covers all 27 Schengen countries combined. If you've already spent time in other Schengen countries before arriving in Estonia, that time counts toward your 90-day limit.
Passport validity is critical
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your entry date. If it expires sooner, you will be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry at the border. Check your passport's expiry date well in advance.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before departure
Make sure your passport is valid for 6+ months beyond entry. Book your return/onward ticket and first night accommodation. Save all confirmations as PDFs or screenshots on your phone. Consider getting travel insurance and a local eSIM.
2
Arrive at Tallinn Airport or any Schengen border
You'll enter Estonia via Tallinn Airport (TLL) or another Schengen port. At passport control, join the 'All Passports' queue. Have your passport and supporting documents ready.
3
Present your passport and answer questions
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask about your trip purpose, length of stay, and where you're staying. Answer clearly and briefly. They may also ask to see your return ticket or accommodation proof.
4
Get your entry stamp
If everything is in order, the officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry and the number of days allowed. This stamp marks the start of your 90-day visa-free period.
5
Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. Unless you have something to declare, walk through the green 'nothing to declare' channel. You're now in Estonia.
