Frequently asked questions

The Standard Visitor visa allows a maximum stay of 6 months per visit. You cannot work or study for more than 30 days. The visa is usually valid for 6 months from the date of issue.
As of 2026, the Standard Visitor visa fee is £115 (approximately HK$1,150). There may be additional service charges if you use priority processing or premium lounges at the Visa Application Centre.
Standard processing takes about 3 weeks after your biometric appointment. Priority processing (5 working days) costs extra, and super priority (next working day) is available at a higher fee. Check the VFS Global website for current prices.
No, the Standard Visitor visa cannot be extended. If you need to stay longer, you must leave the UK and apply for a different visa type (e.g., a long-term visitor visa or a work visa) from Hong Kong.
Yes, you should provide bank statements or payslips from the last 3 months to show you can support yourself during your stay. There's no fixed minimum amount, but you should have enough to cover accommodation, meals, and transport without working.
You can reapply, but you must address the reasons for refusal. Common reasons include insufficient funds, unclear travel plans, or weak ties to Hong Kong. You can also request an administrative review within 28 days, but this costs extra and rarely changes the outcome.
Hong Kong passport holders can transit through the UK without a visa if you have a confirmed onward flight and stay airside (do not pass through immigration). If you need to enter the UK (e.g., to change airports or stay overnight), you need a Standard Visitor visa or a Transit Without Visa (TWOV) if you meet specific conditions. Check the UK government website for details.
