Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your entire stay in Armenia
Your Croatian passport needs to be valid for the full duration of your visit. Armenia does not enforce a 6-month validity rule beyond your stay, but airlines sometimes check for at least 3 months remaining.Required
Return or onward ticket
Immigration may ask for proof of departure
Border officers at Zvartnots Airport in Yerevan routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready. A bus or train ticket out of Armenia also works.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have your hotel reservation, Airbnb confirmation, or a letter from your host ready. Officers rarely ask for it, but if you arrive without a clear place to stay, they may question your plans.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Carry a bank statement or a credit card with a visible limit. Armenia does not publish a minimum amount, but having access to roughly 50,000 AMD (~$130) per day of your stay is a safe benchmark.Recommended
180-day stay resets on re-entry
If you leave Armenia and come back later, the 180-day clock starts fresh. But the total stay in any 12-month period cannot exceed 180 days. Keep track of your entries and exits.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines and border officers check the 6-month validity rule. If your passport expires within 6 months of your entry date, you will be denied boarding or entry. No exceptions.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Yerevan airport or land border
At Zvartnots International Airport (Yerevan) or any land border crossing, follow signs to 'Passport Control' for foreign nationals. There are separate queues for Armenian citizens and foreigners.
2
Present your passport
Hand over your Croatian passport. The officer will check the validity (6+ months) and scan it. No visa is needed, so no additional documents are required unless asked.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer stamps your passport with the date of entry. You're allowed to stay up to 180 days from that date. Keep the stamp visible — you'll need it when leaving.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, collect your bags from baggage claim (if any) and walk through the green 'Nothing to Declare' channel if you have no goods to declare. That's it — you're in Armenia.

Frequently asked questions

You can stay up to 180 days per calendar year. That's a full 6 months. The count starts from the day you enter. If you leave and re-enter, the clock resets, but the total stay in any 12-month period cannot exceed 180 days.
No. The visa-free regime does not allow extensions. If you want to stay longer, you'd need to leave Armenia and re-enter after a period outside the country, or apply for a temporary residence permit (which requires a reason like work or study). Overstaying can result in fines and a ban.
Yes. Immigration may ask for proof of onward travel regardless of mode — flight, bus, train, or even a self-drive itinerary. A bus ticket or train reservation works. If you're driving your own car, have the vehicle registration and a rough route plan ready.
You'll be denied entry. Airlines also check this before boarding. Renew your passport before traveling. If you're already in Armenia and your passport expires, contact your embassy for an emergency travel document.
No, it's not mandatory for visa-free entry. But it's strongly recommended. Medical costs in Armenia can be high for foreigners, and insurance covers evacuation if needed. Some travel insurance policies also cover trip cancellation and lost luggage.
No. The visa-free stay is for tourism, business visits, and short-term stays only. If you plan to work, study, or volunteer, you need to apply for the appropriate visa or residence permit before arrival. Contact the Armenian embassy in Zagreb for details.
Overstaying is a violation of immigration law. You may be fined (amount varies, typically around 50,000–100,000 AMD, roughly €100–€200) and could be banned from re-entering Armenia for a period. Always track your entry date and leave before the 180-day limit.
