Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for an Azerbaijan eVisa at evisa.gov.az at least 3 working days before departure. The eVisa costs $25 USD and is valid for a single entry up to 30 days. Print the approved eVisa and carry it with your passport — border officers will scan the QR code on arrival.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your Croatian passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Azerbaijan. No minimum validity beyond departure is required by Azerbaijani law, but airlines may enforce a 6-month rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Show at check-in and border
Azerbaijan immigration officers routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or onward ticket ready. This is checked at the airline counter and again at passport control in Baku.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host in Azerbaijan. Immigration may ask for your address on arrival — having a printed booking saves time at the counter.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Have a bank statement or credit card showing access to at least $200 USD per day of your trip. Officers rarely ask, but they can request proof of sufficient funds if your stay is long or your itinerary looks unclear.Recommended
Passport validity is critical
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Azerbaijan. If it's shorter, your eVisa will be denied. Check your passport's expiry date before applying.
Register if staying over 15 days
If you're staying longer than 15 days, you must register with the State Migration Service. Hotels handle this automatically, but if you're in a private rental, you need to do it yourself. Fines for non-compliance are steep.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to evisa.gov.az, fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport-style photo, and pay the fee. Processing takes up to 3 business days. You'll receive the eVisa by email.
2
Print or save your eVisa
Once approved, print a paper copy and also save the PDF on your phone. Border control will scan the QR code at the airport.
3
Arrive at Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD) in Baku
After landing, follow signs to 'Passport Control'. Have your passport, printed eVisa, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation ready. The officer will stamp your passport. The process usually takes 5–10 minutes.
4
Register your stay (if staying more than 15 days)
If you're staying longer than 15 days, your hotel or host must register you with the State Migration Service within 15 days of arrival. If you're in a private apartment, you need to do it yourself at the migration office. Failing to register can result in a fine.
