Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Belarus. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by Belarusian law, but some airlines may enforce a 6-month rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Belarus
Immigration officers at Minsk National Airport routinely ask for a confirmed return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready showing you leave within the 30-day visa-free window.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officials may request your hotel reservation or a notarized invitation letter from a Belarusian host. Keep a printed confirmation or digital copy on your phone.Recommended
Proof of funds
Financial means for your stay
You should be able to show at least €25 per day for your stay in Belarus. A bank statement or credit card with available limit usually satisfies the officer.Recommended
Registration deadline: 5 days
If you're staying more than 5 days, your accommodation provider must register you with local authorities. Hotels do this automatically. If staying with friends or family, remind your host — you'll need the registration slip when leaving.
Currency and cash
Belarus uses the Belarusian ruble (BYN). Credit cards are accepted in Minsk hotels and larger restaurants, but smaller shops and taxis prefer cash. Bring euros or US dollars to exchange — ATMs are common in cities but may have low limits.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Minsk National Airport (MSQ) or land border
Most travellers fly into Minsk National Airport. At immigration, join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation proof ready. The officer will stamp you in — no questions asked if everything's in order.
2
Complete migration card (if asked)
Some border crossings still issue a small paper migration card. Fill it out in block capitals — name, passport number, flight number, address in Belarus. Keep the departure half safe; you'll need to hand it back when leaving.
3
Register with local authorities (if staying more than 5 days)
If you're staying longer than 5 days, your hotel or host must register you with the local migration office. Hotels do this automatically. If you're in a private home, the host must do it within 5 days of your arrival. You don't need to go yourself, but confirm it's done.

No. The visa-free period cannot be extended. You must leave Belarus within 30 days. If you overstay, you risk a fine (around 50–100 BYN) and possible entry ban. If you need longer, apply for a visa at a Belarusian embassy before you travel.
Only if you stay more than 5 days. Hotels register you automatically. If you're staying with friends or family, your host must register you at the local migration office within 5 days of arrival. You don't need to go yourself, but confirm it's done — you'll need the registration slip when leaving.
Overstaying even by a day can result in a fine of 50–100 BYN (about $15–30 USD) and a warning. Longer overstays may lead to deportation and a ban from re-entering Belarus for up to 5 years. Set a reminder to leave before day 30.
Yes, but land borders with Poland and Lithuania are open only at specific crossings. Check the current status before travelling — some crossings have long queues or are closed for renovation. The most common land crossings are Terespol/Brest (Poland) and Medininkai/Kamenny Log (Lithuania).
If you're flying through Minsk and staying airside (not passing immigration), you don't need a visa. But if you need to leave the transit zone or change airports, you'll need a visa. The 30-day visa-free entry applies only if you intend to stay in Belarus.
No, it's not required by law for visa-free travellers. But it's strongly recommended. A simple accident or illness can cost hundreds of dollars per day in Belarus. A basic policy covering medical expenses and repatriation costs about $20–30 for a month.
