Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your entire stay in Kazakhstan
Your Croatian passport needs to be valid for the whole time you're in Kazakhstan. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires before you leave, they'll deny boarding. No 6-month validity rule applies here, just cover your stay.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof you're leaving within 30 days
Immigration officers at Almaty and Nur-Sultan airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing departure within the 30-day visa-free window. Have a printed or digital copy ready — they won't let you through without it.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers sometimes ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and phone number covers this. Not always checked, but saves time if asked.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Kazakhstan doesn't publish a fixed minimum, but carrying around $50–70 USD per day in cash or having a bank statement showing access to funds works. Immigration rarely asks, but if you look underprepared they might dig deeper.Recommended
Passport validity is critical
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you enter Kazakhstan. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you won't be allowed to fly.
No visa, but be prepared
Even though you don't need a visa, immigration may still ask for your return ticket and accommodation booking. Keep digital copies on your phone and a printed backup in your bag.

What happens at the border

1
Arrival at the airport
When you land at Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport (NQZ) or Almaty International Airport (ALA), follow signs to 'Passport Control' or 'Immigration'. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
2
Queue and document check
Join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. The immigration officer will check your passport validity, ask your purpose of visit, and may request your return ticket and accommodation booking. Answer clearly and briefly.
3
Passport stamping
The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date and the allowed stay (30 days). Check the stamp before leaving the counter to ensure the dates are correct.
4
Baggage claim and customs
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim. If you have nothing to declare, use the green 'Nothing to Declare' channel. Keep your passport and boarding pass handy for any random checks.
