Show you can support yourself
Have cash (USD or euros) or a bank statement showing at least $500 USD. Immigration rarely asks, but it helps if questioned about your stay.Recommended
Cash only for visa fee
The visa on arrival fee must be paid in cash (USD or EUR). No cards, no mobile payments. Bring crisp, new bills — old or damaged notes are often rejected. No change given, so bring exact amount or small denominations.
No visa on arrival at land borders
If you're planning to enter Bangladesh overland from India or Myanmar, you cannot get a visa on arrival. You must have a visa issued by a Bangladesh embassy before you travel.

What happens at the border

1
Land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (DAC) in Dhaka
After deplaning, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' — it's a separate counter before immigration. Queue up, fill out a small form (name, passport number, hotel address). Have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation proof ready.
2
Pay the visa fee and get your sticker
Hand over your passport and the fee (cash only, USD or EUR). The officer will paste a visa sticker and stamp it. Check the validity dates before walking away.
3
Proceed to immigration
With the visa sticker in your passport, go to the regular immigration counter. They'll scan your passport and ask a few questions (purpose of visit, where staying). Answer briefly and honestly.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, pick up your bags from the carousel. There's a customs declaration if you're carrying expensive electronics or large amounts of cash. Otherwise, walk straight out.
