Hungarian passport holders need a visa to enter Kenya in 2026. You must apply online before you travel — there are no visa-on-arrival options. The process is straightforward if you have your documents ready.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
Apply for a Kenya eVisa at the official eTA portal. Processing takes 2–3 business days, so submit at least a week before departure. Print the approval email and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must have at least 6 months validity
Your Hungarian passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Kenya. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at JKIA routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight itinerary ready. Without one, you risk being refused entry.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host. Officers occasionally ask for this, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have bank statements or a credit card ready. Immigration may ask how you plan to fund your stay — a daily budget of around $100 USD is a safe benchmark.Recommended
Apply early — don't wait until the last minute
The e-Visa processing time is 2–5 business days, but it can take longer during peak season or if your application has errors. Apply at least 2 weeks before your flight to avoid stress.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save your e-Visa, passport, flight tickets, and hotel booking as PDFs on your phone. Also email them to yourself. If you lose your phone, you can still access them.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the e-Visa online
Go to the official Kenya e-Visa website (etakenya.go.ke). Fill in the application form, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $51 USD for a single-entry tourist visa). Processing takes 2–5 business days. You'll receive the visa by email — print it or save it on your phone.
2
Pack your documents
Before you leave, gather: your printed e-Visa, passport with 6+ months validity, return flight confirmation, first night hotel booking, and travel insurance certificate. Keep copies on your phone too.
3
Arrive at JKIA (Nairobi) or Moi International (Mombasa)
At immigration, join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Hand over your passport and e-Visa. The officer may ask for your return ticket and accommodation. Answer clearly. You'll get a stamp allowing up to 90 days stay. The whole process takes 10–30 minutes depending on queues.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, collect your bags from the carousel. You may be asked to fill a customs declaration form if carrying goods over $500. Otherwise, walk through the green channel.
