Hungarian passport holders can enter Liechtenstein without a visa for short stays. This has been the case since Liechtenstein joined the Schengen Area in 2011. You can stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period for tourism, business, or family visits.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay
Your Hungarian passport needs to be valid for the entire time you're in Liechtenstein. Since Liechtenstein is in the Schengen zone, you get 90 days within any 180-day period across all Schengen countries — not just Liechtenstein. Airlines at Budapest may ask for 6 months validity, but the border officer only cares that it covers your stay.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Schengen area
Immigration at the Liechtenstein border (or at the Swiss airport you fly into) will ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone within 90 days. Budget airlines like easyJet or Wizz Air check this before boarding. Have a printed or digital copy ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation, hostel booking, or an invitation letter from your host in Liechtenstein. Border officers rarely ask for it, but if they do, you need to show where you're staying each night. A simple Booking.com printout works.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have a bank statement or credit card showing you have enough money for your stay. There's no fixed amount for Liechtenstein, but €50–100 per day is a safe benchmark. I've never been asked for this entering from Switzerland, but keep a statement on your phone just in case.Recommended
No airport in Liechtenstein
You'll fly into Zurich Airport (ZRH) in Switzerland, then take a train or drive to Liechtenstein. Immigration is handled by Swiss border police at the airport or at the Swiss-Austrian border.
Schengen 90/180-day rule applies
Your 90-day allowance covers all Schengen countries combined. If you've already spent time in France, Germany, Italy, etc., those days count. Use the EU's short-stay calculator to track your days.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the border
Liechtenstein has no airport. You'll enter via Switzerland (by train, car, or bus). Swiss border police handle immigration. At Zurich Airport, go through Swiss passport control. If driving from Austria, you'll pass a Swiss checkpoint at the border.
2
Present your passport
Hand over your Hungarian passport. The officer will check your validity, look for blank pages, and may ask about your stay. Answer clearly: how long, where you're staying, and your departure plan.
3
Show supporting documents if asked
Have your return ticket, accommodation booking, and insurance ready. In practice, Swiss officers rarely ask Hungarian passport holders for these, but keep them accessible.
4
Receive your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date. This stamp starts your 90-day Schengen clock. Keep the stamp visible — you'll need it when you leave.
5
Enter Liechtenstein
Once stamped into Switzerland, you're free to cross into Liechtenstein. There are no border checks between the two countries. Just drive or take the bus across.
