Hungarian passport holders can enter Lithuania without a visa for short stays. As an EU citizen, you can travel freely within the Schengen Area, which includes Lithuania. This has been the case since Lithuania joined the Schengen Area in 2007.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your departure from Lithuania
Your Hungarian passport needs at least 3 months of validity after your planned departure from the Schengen area. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding. The 90-day Schengen limit applies across all 29 countries, not just Lithuania.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the Schengen area
Immigration officers at Vilnius Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone within 90 days. Budget airlines like Ryanair and Wizz Air also check this at check-in. Have a printed or digital copy ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you are staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A hotel confirmation or a letter from a friend in Lithuania works. I have been asked for this at Vilnius Airport twice in the last year.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Lithuania does not enforce a fixed minimum amount, but officers expect to see enough cash or card balance for your planned stay. A bank statement or credit card with a reasonable limit (around €50–€70 per day) usually satisfies them.Recommended
Schengen rules apply
Your 90-day visa-free stay applies to the entire Schengen Area, not just Lithuania. If you've already spent time in other Schengen countries (like Germany or France) before arriving, that counts toward your 90-day limit.
No visa needed — you're an EU citizen
As a Hungarian passport holder, you have the right to free movement within the EU. Lithuania is one of the easiest countries for you to visit — just show up with a valid passport.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Vilnius Airport or Kaunas Airport
You'll land at Vilnius Airport (VNO) or Kaunas Airport (KUN). Follow signs to 'Arrivals' and then to 'EU/EEA/Switzerland' passport control.
2
Queue at EU passport control
Join the queue for EU/EEA/Switzerland citizens. Have your passport ready. The officer may ask your purpose of visit and how long you're staying.
3
Present your passport and answer questions
Hand over your passport. If asked, say 'tourism' or 'business' and the number of days. They may also ask for your return ticket or accommodation proof — have them ready on your phone.
4
Get your passport stamped (if requested)
As an EU citizen, you don't need a stamp, but you can ask for one if you want a souvenir. The officer will wave you through.
5
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, head to baggage claim (if you checked bags), then walk through 'Nothing to Declare' if you have no goods to declare. You're in Lithuania.
