Hungarian passport holders can enter Luxembourg visa-free for short stays (up to 90 days within any 180-day period). This has been the case since Luxembourg joined the Schengen Area, and it remains unchanged in 2026. You just need a valid passport and proof of onward travel.

Passport validity is critical
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your entry date. If it expires sooner, you may be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry at the border. Renew your passport well in advance.

Arrive at Luxembourg Airport (LUX) or land border
You'll go through Schengen passport control. Since Hungary is also Schengen, you'll use the EU/EEA lane. Have your passport ready. The officer may ask the purpose of your visit, how long you're staying, and where you're staying. Answer clearly.

Present your passport and supporting documents
Hand over your passport. If asked, show your return ticket (screenshot is fine) and accommodation booking. The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date. This stamp marks the start of your 90-day Schengen stay.

Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim (if you checked bags), then walk through customs (green channel for most travellers). You're now in Luxembourg.

No. Hungary and Luxembourg are both Schengen Area members, so you can travel visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period for tourism, business, or family visits.
Up to 90 days within any 180-day rolling window. This applies to the entire Schengen Area, not just Luxembourg. If you've already spent time in other Schengen countries, count those days too.
Generally no for tourism. Extensions are only granted in exceptional circumstances (e.g., medical emergency, force majeure). You'd need to apply at the Luxembourg immigration office (Direction de l'Immigration) before your 90 days expire.
Overstaying can result in a fine, a ban from re-entering the Schengen Area, or both. The exact penalty depends on how long you overstay. It's not worth the risk.
