Hungarian passport holders need an eVisa to enter Nigeria in 2026. The process is entirely online — you apply before you travel and receive an approval letter to present at the border. Plan ahead: processing can take a few days to a couple of weeks.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Nigeria eVisa
Apply for your Nigeria eVisa at the Nigeria Immigration Service portal before you travel. The online form asks for your passport details, travel dates, and a digital photo. Processing usually takes 3–5 business days, and you'll receive an approval letter by email — print it and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Hungarian passport needs at least 6 months of remaining validity from your date of entry into Nigeria. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Nigeria
Immigration officers at Lagos and Abuja ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket before they stamp you in. Have a printed copy or show it on your phone — a flexible ticket works if your plans aren't final.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host in Nigeria. Officers occasionally ask for this, especially if you're arriving without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash, card, or bank statement
Have a bank statement or credit card showing you can cover your stay. Immigration doesn't always check, but if asked, show at least $1,000 USD equivalent for a short trip.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccination certificate
Required for entry
Nigeria requires a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate for all arriving passengers. You'll be asked to show it at passport control — without it, you risk a fine or being turned away.Required
Passport validity is strict
Your Hungarian passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Nigeria. If it's close to expiring, renew it before applying for the eVisa. Immigration will check this at the border.
eVisa processing can be slow
Apply at least 3 weeks before your trip. The Nigeria Immigration Service portal can be glitchy — save screenshots of every step and keep your application reference number.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the Nigeria Immigration Service portal (portal.immigration.gov.ng). Fill in your personal details, upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the visa fee (typically around $160–$200 depending on nationality). Processing takes 3–10 business days — sometimes longer during peak periods.
2
Receive and print your approval letter
Once approved, you'll get an eVisa approval letter by email. Print a paper copy and also save a PDF on your phone. You'll need to show this at check-in and at immigration in Nigeria.
3
Arrive at a Nigerian airport
Most international flights land at Lagos (LOS) or Abuja (ABV). At immigration, present your passport, eVisa approval letter, and return ticket. The officer will stamp you in. Keep the eVisa letter with your passport for the duration of your stay.
