Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Uganda eVisa
Apply for your Uganda eVisa at the official portal before departure. Processing takes 2–3 business days, and you'll receive an approval letter by email. Print that letter and carry it with your passport — immigration at Entebbe will ask to see it.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended stay
Your Hungarian passport needs at least two blank pages for entry and exit stamps. Uganda strictly enforces the 6-month validity rule — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at Entebbe routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Airlines also check this before issuing a boarding pass — have a printed or digital copy ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host. Immigration may ask where you're staying, and having proof avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Evidence of sufficient money for your stay
Have bank statements or a credit card ready to show you can cover your expenses. Uganda doesn't set a fixed minimum, but officers may ask if you look underprepared.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine required
Uganda requires proof of yellow fever vaccination if you're arriving from a country with yellow fever risk. Even if you're coming directly from Hungary, it's strongly recommended — carry your yellow card. No vaccine, no entry.
eVisa processing time
Apply at least 1 week before departure. Processing takes 2–5 business days, but delays happen. Don't wait until the last minute.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to visas.immigration.go.ug, fill in the application, upload your passport photo and passport data page, and pay the fee (around $50 for a single-entry tourist visa). Processing takes 2–5 business days. You'll receive an approval letter by email — print it or save it on your phone.
2
Pack your documents
Before you leave, gather: your printed eVisa approval, passport with 6+ months validity, return ticket, first-night hotel booking, and travel insurance details. Keep copies in your carry-on.
3
Arrival at Entebbe or land border
At Entebbe International Airport (or a land border like Busia or Malaba), join the 'Visitors' queue. Hand over your passport and eVisa approval. The officer will check your passport validity, ask about your stay, and may ask for your return ticket. You'll get an entry stamp — usually valid for up to 90 days.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, collect your bags from the carousel, then proceed through customs. There's a green channel for nothing to declare and a red channel for goods over $500 or restricted items. You're free to go.
