Hungarian passport holders can enter Kosovo without a visa for up to 90 days. This has been the case since 2012 and remains unchanged in 2026. Just make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 90 days beyond your departure date from Kosovo
Your Hungarian passport needs at least 90 days of validity remaining from the day you leave Kosovo. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding. Kosovo does not require 6 months validity like some other countries, but the 90-day rule is strictly enforced at the border.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Kosovo
Immigration officers at Pristina International Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready showing you leave within the 90-day visa-free period. Airlines also check this before issuing a boarding pass.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed or digital copy of your hotel reservation, Airbnb confirmation, or a letter of invitation from your host. Border officers rarely ask for it, but having it ready avoids delays if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient means of support during your stay
Kosovo can ask you to show you have enough money for your trip. Have a bank statement or credit card ready showing at least €50 per day of your stay. I've never been asked for this at Pristina, but the regulation exists.Recommended
Kosovo uses the Euro
Even though Kosovo is not in the EU, the official currency is the Euro (EUR). You can use euros from any country. ATMs are widely available in cities, but carry some cash for rural areas.
Border crossing from Serbia
If entering Kosovo from Serbia, you must use official border crossings. The most common are Merdare (highway) and Jarinje (north). Do not attempt to cross through unofficial paths — you may be denied entry or fined.

What happens at the border

1
Arrival at Pristina International Airport
After landing, follow signs to 'Passport Control'. There are separate queues for EU and non-EU passport holders. As a Hungarian, use the EU queue. Have your passport and return ticket ready. The officer will stamp your passport with a 90-day entry stamp. The process usually takes 1-2 minutes.
2
Land border crossings
If arriving by land from Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, or Albania, you'll go through a border checkpoint. Present your passport and vehicle documents if driving. The officer may ask your purpose of visit and accommodation details. Expect a short wait, especially during peak summer months.
3
Registering with local police (if staying long-term)
If you plan to stay more than 30 days, you must register with the local police station in the municipality where you're staying. Bring your passport, accommodation proof, and a completed registration form. The process is free and takes about 30 minutes. Not required for short visits.

Frequently asked questions

No. Visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, or short visits. If you plan to work, you need a work visa or residence permit arranged through your employer and the Kosovo Ministry of Internal Affairs.
You must apply for a temporary residence permit before your 90 days expire. Contact the Kosovo Ministry of Internal Affairs or the nearest police station. The process takes 2-4 weeks and requires proof of sufficient funds, health insurance, and a valid reason (e.g., work, study, family reunion).
No. If you're transiting through Kosovo (e.g., flying from Serbia to Albania with a layover in Pristina), you can stay up to 90 days visa-free as long as you meet the passport validity and onward ticket requirements.
You must leave Kosovo before your passport expires. Overstaying can result in fines (up to €500) and a ban from re-entering for up to 1 year. Contact your embassy in Pristina for emergency passport renewal if needed.
Technically, the rule is 6 months from your entry date. In practice, some border officers may be lenient if your passport is still valid for the duration of your stay. But to avoid problems, renew your passport before traveling.
No. Entry is completely free for Hungarian citizens. There are no visa application fees, no visa-on-arrival costs, and no eVisa charges.
Report the loss immediately to the local police and get a police report. Then contact the Hungarian Embassy in Pristina (Rr. 'Agim Ramadani', nr. 25, Pristina, phone: +383 38 224 000) for an emergency travel document. You'll need a passport photo and the police report. Processing takes 1-2 working days.
