Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Indonesian passport needs to be valid for at least the full 30 days you plan to stay in Hong Kong. Hong Kong immigration does not enforce the 6-month rule, but your airline might — check with them before you fly.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Hong Kong
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight out of Hong Kong within the 30-day visa-free period. Airlines at check-in in Indonesia will also ask for this.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host address
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host in Hong Kong. Immigration rarely asks for it, but having it ready avoids delays if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Have at least HKD 3,000–5,000 in cash or a credit card with available balance. Hong Kong immigration does not formally check this for Indonesian passport holders, but it's smart to have it accessible.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines and Hong Kong immigration both check that your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your entry date. If it's close to expiry, renew before you book anything.
Keep a digital copy of your documents
Save screenshots of your passport info page, return ticket, and hotel booking on your phone. Also email copies to yourself. If you lose your passport, this makes replacement much faster.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before departure
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date). Book your return/onward ticket and first night accommodation. Save all confirmations as screenshots on your phone. Arrange travel insurance and a local SIM/eSIM if you want.
2
Fill out the arrival card on the plane
You'll receive a small white arrival/departure card on the flight. Fill it out in block capitals. You'll need your passport number, flight number, and accommodation address. Keep it with your passport.
3
Queue at immigration at Hong Kong International Airport
Follow signs to 'Arrivals' and then 'Immigration'. There are separate queues for Hong Kong residents and visitors. Join the visitor queue. Have your passport, completed arrival card, and return ticket ready.
4
Present your documents to the immigration officer
Hand over your passport and arrival card. The officer may ask a few questions: purpose of visit, length of stay, where you're staying. Answer briefly and honestly. They'll stamp your passport and return it.
5
Collect your luggage and proceed to customs
After immigration, collect your checked luggage from the carousel. Then walk through the 'Green Channel' (nothing to declare) unless you have items that need declaring. You're now free to enter Hong Kong.
