Valid passport
Must be valid for entire stay
Your Indonesian passport must be valid for the entire duration of your stay in Iraq. Airlines check this at check-in, and immigration officers will deny entry if your passport expires before you leave.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers in Iraq routinely ask for proof of a return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or digital confirmation ready. Airlines also check this before boarding.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to carry
While not always checked, having a hotel booking or an invitation letter from a host can speed up the immigration process. Keep a printed copy or digital confirmation handy.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to carry
Immigration may ask for evidence of sufficient funds for your stay. Carry a bank statement or credit card showing you can cover expenses. No specific minimum amount is published.Recommended
eVisa must be approved before you fly
You cannot get the eVisa at the airport. Apply online at least two weeks before your trip. Without an approved eVisa, you'll be denied boarding.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save your eVisa, passport, and booking confirmations as PDFs on your phone and in cloud storage. If you lose your phone, you'll still have access.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Iraqi eVisa website (evisa.iq). Fill out the application form with your passport details, travel dates, and accommodation info. Upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $50–$80 depending on processing speed). Submit and wait for approval — typically 3–7 business days.
2
Prepare your documents
Once your eVisa is approved, print a copy or save it on your phone. Also print or save your return ticket, hotel booking, and travel insurance. Keep them together in a folder or a clear plastic sleeve for easy access at the airport.
3
Arrive at Baghdad International Airport (BGW)
After landing, follow signs to 'Passport Control' or 'Immigration'. Hand over your passport, eVisa printout (or phone), and return ticket. The officer will stamp your passport and let you through. The whole process usually takes 10–20 minutes if you have everything ready.
4
Exit and collect luggage
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim. Then head to customs — declare any large amounts of cash or restricted items. Once through, you're free to enter Iraq.
