RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for a Mongolia eVisa at evisa.mn before your flight. Processing takes 3–5 business days, so submit at least a week ahead. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport — immigration at Chinggis Khaan Airport will check it before stamping you in.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for entire stay
Your Indonesian passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Mongolia. No minimum validity beyond departure is required by law, but airlines may enforce 6 months — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Ulaanbaatar routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready. Without it, you may be denied boarding or entry.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to carry
Hotel bookings or a letter of invitation from a host in Mongolia can speed up the immigration process. Officers rarely ask, but having a printed confirmation avoids delays if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to carry
Carry evidence of sufficient funds — around 500,000 MNT per day or a credit card statement. Immigration rarely checks, but it's one less thing to worry about if they ask.Recommended
Airlines may enforce 6-month passport validity
Mongolia's immigration law doesn't require 6 months of passport validity beyond your stay, but some airlines won't let you board if your passport expires within 6 months of your return date. Check with your airline before flying.
Overstay fines add up fast
The fine is about $10 USD per day (28,000 MNT). If you overstay by a week, that's $70. Avoid it by extending your visa before it expires or leaving on time.
eVisa is straightforward
Most applicants get approved within 3–5 business days. Just make sure your application is complete — double-check your name, passport number, and photo. Incomplete applications are a common reason for delays.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for your eVisa online
Go to evisa.mn and fill out the application. Upload a clear scan of your passport bio page and a recent passport-style photo. Pay the ~$50 USD fee with a credit card. You'll get a confirmation email within minutes.
2
Wait for approval (3–5 business days)
Most applications are processed within 3–5 business days. Check your email (including spam) for the approval letter. If you haven't heard back after 5 days, contact the Mongolian Immigration Agency.
3
Print your eVisa approval letter
Print a paper copy of the approval letter. Immigration at Chinggis Khaan International Airport will ask to see it along with your passport. Keep a digital backup on your phone too.
4
Arrive at Chinggis Khaan International Airport
When you land in Ulaanbaatar, head to the immigration counter. Hand over your passport and printed eVisa letter. The officer will stamp you in — usually for 30 days. The whole process takes 5–10 minutes if you have everything ready.
5
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, pick up your bags from the carousel and walk through customs. There's usually no baggage check unless you're carrying something unusual. Welcome to Mongolia!
