Israeli passport holders can enter Hungary without a visa for stays up to 90 days within any 180-day period. This covers tourism, business, and family visits. As of 2026, the rules are unchanged — just ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your entry date.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your full stay
At least 6 months validity beyond your entry date. Minimum 1 blank page for the entry stamp. Airlines may deny boarding if validity is too close.Required
Return or onward ticket
Officers check this regularly
A confirmed flight out of the country. Immigration may ask to see this — have a screenshot ready on your phone. An onward ticket from a neighbouring country also works.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel name or address
A hotel booking confirmation, or the address of where you are staying. The arrival form often asks for this. A Booking.com or Airbnb confirmation email is fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Rarely checked
Immigration officers may ask you to demonstrate sufficient funds for your stay. A credit card or bank statement usually suffices.Recommended
Schengen zone rules apply
Hungary is part of the Schengen area. Your 90-day visa-free limit applies to the entire Schengen zone, not just Hungary. Days spent in France, Germany, Italy, etc., all count toward the same 90-day limit.
Entry via another Schengen country
If you fly into another Schengen country first (e.g., Vienna, Austria), you'll clear passport control there, not in Hungary. The same rules apply — just show your onward ticket to Hungary if asked.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Budapest Airport (BUD) or other Schengen entry point
You'll go through passport control. Join the 'All Passports' queue. Have your passport and boarding pass ready. The officer will check your passport validity, may ask about your trip purpose and accommodation, and stamp your passport. The whole process usually takes 2-5 minutes.
2
Show return ticket if asked
The officer may request proof of onward travel. Have your return ticket or onward flight booking open on your phone. If you're continuing to another Schengen country, show that ticket instead.
3
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There's usually no customs check for personal items. You're free to enter Hungary.

Frequently asked questions

No. Israeli passport holders can enter Hungary visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period for tourism, business, or family visits.
Up to 90 days within any 180-day period. The clock resets after you leave the Schengen area for 90 consecutive days. Overstaying can result in fines or a ban.
No, extensions are not available for visa-free stays. If you need to stay longer, you must apply for a national visa (D-type) from the Hungarian embassy in Israel before traveling.
You will likely be denied boarding or entry. Renew your passport before traveling. The 6-month validity is counted from your entry date, not your departure date.
Yes, you need proof of onward travel out of the Schengen area. A flight to a non-Schengen country (e.g., UK, USA, Israel) works. A train or bus ticket to a non-Schengen country is also acceptable.
Not for short visa-free stays, but it's strongly recommended. Medical costs in Hungary can be high, and your Israeli health insurance may not cover you abroad. Get a policy that covers at least €30,000 in medical expenses.
You risk a fine (typically €50-200), a formal warning, or a re-entry ban to the Schengen area. If you overstay by more than a few days, you may be detained and deported. Always track your days carefully.
