Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for at least the length of your stay in Nicaragua. Airlines check this at check-in. If your passport expires sooner, you may be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Nicaragua
Immigration officers routinely ask for proof of a return or onward flight within 90 days. Have a printed or digital copy of your ticket ready. Airlines may also request it at check-in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Have a hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host ready. Officers rarely ask, but if they do, you need to show where you're staying for at least the first few nights.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Carry cash (USD or córdobas) or a credit card to show you can cover your expenses. There's no fixed minimum, but having $50–$100 per day in accessible funds is a safe bet.Recommended
Overstay = trouble
Nicaragua does not allow extensions. If you stay past 90 days, you'll face fines and possible entry bans. Set a calendar reminder to leave before day 85.
Keep your migration form
The small paper form you get on arrival is your exit permit. Don't lose it. You'll need to hand it back when you leave. If you lose it, expect delays and a small fee at the airport.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at immigration
At Managua International Airport (MGA) or any land border, join the 'Extranjeros' (Foreigners) queue. Have your passport, return ticket, and hotel booking ready on your phone or printed.
2
Fill out the migration form
You'll receive a small paper form on the plane or at the border. Fill in your personal details, flight number, and address in Nicaragua. Keep the stamped copy — you'll need it when you leave.
3
Present documents to officer
Hand over your passport, completed form, and be ready to show your return ticket and hotel booking if asked. The officer will stamp your passport with a 90-day entry. No fee is charged.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After the stamp, proceed to baggage claim (at the airport), then customs. Green channel for nothing to declare, red channel if you have goods over $500 or restricted items.

Frequently asked questions

No. The 90-day visa-free period is not extendable. You must leave Nicaragua before day 90. Overstaying can result in fines or a ban. If you need more time, you'd have to exit the country (e.g., to Costa Rica or Honduras) and re-enter, but immigration may question frequent back-to-back visits.
Only if you're arriving from a country with yellow fever (e.g., Brazil, Colombia, parts of Africa). If you're flying directly from Israel, no vaccine is required. If you've recently been in a risk area, bring your yellow fever certificate.
Overstaying is taken seriously. You'll likely be fined at the airport when you leave — roughly $10–$20 per month overstayed, but it can vary. In extreme cases, you could be detained or banned from re-entry. Set a reminder to leave before day 90.
Yes. Israeli passport holders can enter at any official land border crossing. The process is the same as at the airport: show your passport, return ticket, and hotel booking. Popular crossings include Peñas Blancas (from Costa Rica) and El Guasaule (from Honduras). Expect a small exit fee from the country you're leaving.
No, there is no official requirement to show bank statements or cash. However, if an officer suspects you might work illegally or can't support yourself, they may ask. Having a credit card or a few hundred dollars in cash is a good safety net.
No. Nicaragua does not require an online pre-registration or arrival declaration for Israeli passport holders. You'll fill out a paper migration form on the plane or at the border. No advance registration needed.
US dollars are widely accepted in Nicaragua, especially in tourist areas and hotels. You'll get change in córdobas. ATMs dispense córdobas. Bring some small US bills ($1, $5, $10) for taxis and tips. Don't rely on credit cards everywhere — many small shops and street vendors are cash-only.
