Indian passport holders need an eVisa to visit Hong Kong in 2026. The eVisa is a straightforward online application — you get approval before you travel, and it covers tourism and short business visits. No visa-on-arrival or visa-free entry for Indian nationals.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Hong Kong Visit Visa (eVisa)
Apply online at the Hong Kong Immigration Department's portal. The eVisa is required for Indian passport holders — you cannot get a visa on arrival. Processing takes 2–4 weeks, so apply well ahead of travel.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Hong Kong. Hong Kong does not enforce a 6-month validity rule, but your airline may ask for at least 6 months — check with them before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Outbound travel proof
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready — they check this at the counter before issuing entry permission.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host in Hong Kong. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it ready avoids delays if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient financial means
Have bank statements or a credit card showing you can support yourself during your stay. Immigration may ask for proof of funds — around HKD 3,000–5,000 per day is a safe benchmark.Recommended
eVisa is mandatory — no visa on arrival
Indian passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival in Hong Kong. You must have an approved eVisa before you fly. Airlines will check this at check-in. Without it, you won't be allowed to board.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Hong Kong, not from your departure date. If your passport expires sooner, renew it before applying for the eVisa.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to the Hong Kong Immigration Department's eVisa portal. Fill in your personal details, passport info, and travel plans. Upload a digital passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around HKD 230, about INR 2,500) by credit card. You'll get a confirmation email within a few days — approval usually takes 3–5 working days.
2
Print and save your eVisa
Once approved, you'll receive an email with your eVisa attached as a PDF. Print a paper copy and save a digital copy on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and at immigration in Hong Kong.
3
Prepare your documents for departure
At the airport in India, the airline will check your eVisa, passport validity, and return ticket. Have your printed eVisa, passport, and booking confirmations ready. If you're flying from a smaller airport, allow extra time — they may not see Indian eVisa holders often.
4
Arrival at Hong Kong International Airport
Follow signs to 'Arrivals' and then 'Immigration'. Join the queue for 'Visitors' or 'Foreign Passports'. Have your passport, printed eVisa, and return ticket ready. The officer will scan your passport, stamp it, and ask a few questions (purpose of visit, where you're staying). Answer clearly. You'll get a 14-day stay stamp.
5
Collect baggage and exit
After immigration, collect your luggage from the carousel. Then proceed through Customs — green channel if you have nothing to declare. Exit into the arrivals hall. You can take the Airport Express train or a taxi into the city.
