If you hold an Indian passport, you need a visa to enter Croatia in 2026. Since Croatia is part of the Schengen Area, you'll apply for a short-stay Schengen visa (type C) through the Croatian embassy or a designated visa application center. Processing usually takes about 15 days, so plan to apply at least a few weeks before your trip.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your full stay
At least 6 months validity beyond your entry date. Minimum 1 blank page for the entry stamp. Airlines may deny boarding if validity is too close.Required
Return or onward ticket
Officers check this regularly
A confirmed flight out of the country. Immigration may ask to see this — have a screenshot ready on your phone. An onward ticket from a neighbouring country also works.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel name or address
A hotel booking confirmation, or the address of where you are staying. The arrival form often asks for this. A Booking.com or Airbnb confirmation email is fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Rarely checked
Immigration officers may ask you to demonstrate sufficient funds for your stay. A credit card or bank statement usually suffices.Recommended
Visa required – apply early
Indian passport holders cannot travel to Croatia without a visa. Do not attempt to travel without one – you will be denied boarding and entry. Start your application at least 4–6 weeks before departure. Appointments at VFS Global centres fill up quickly.
Croatia is in Schengen – same rules apply
Since 2023, Croatia applies the same visa rules as other Schengen countries. If you already have a valid multiple-entry Schengen visa (from any Schengen state), you can use it to enter Croatia as long as it has enough validity and remaining days.
No visa extensions available
Croatia does not allow visa extensions under normal circumstances. You must leave before your visa expires. Overstaying can result in a re-entry ban. Plan your trip dates carefully.

What happens at the border

1
1. Determine where to apply
Since Croatia is in Schengen, apply at the Croatian embassy/consulate in India (New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, or Chennai) or use a VFS Global application centre. You must apply in the country where you legally reside. If Croatia is not your main destination (longest stay), apply at the embassy of the main Schengen country instead.
2
2. Gather documents and book appointment
Collect all required documents: passport, photos, insurance, bank statements, accommodation proof, flight itinerary, and filled application form. Book an appointment online through VFS Global or the embassy's portal. Appointments can fill up weeks in advance, so book early.
3
3. Attend the visa interview
Go to the application centre on your appointment date. Submit your documents, pay the fee (approx. €80 for adults, €40 for children 6–12, free under 6), and provide biometrics (fingerprints and photo). The interview usually lasts 10–15 minutes. Be honest and concise.
4
4. Wait for processing
Standard processing is 15 calendar days from submission. It can take up to 30 days if more checks are needed, or up to 60 days in rare cases. Track your application online using the reference number you receive.
5
5. Collect your passport and travel
Once your visa is approved, you'll receive a vignette sticker in your passport. Collect it in person or opt for courier delivery. Check the visa details: validity dates, number of entries, and duration of stay. When you arrive at a Croatian airport, join the 'All Passports' queue. The border officer will check your passport, visa, and may ask for your return ticket and proof of accommodation – have them ready.

Frequently asked questions

Standard processing is 15 calendar days from the date you submit your application at the visa centre. It can take up to 30 days if the embassy needs additional documents or verification. In rare cases, it might extend to 60 days. Always apply at least 3–4 weeks before your intended travel date.
No. Croatia joined the Schengen Area on 1 January 2023, so you apply for a standard short-stay Schengen visa (type C). If Croatia is your main destination (longest stay), apply at the Croatian embassy. If another Schengen country is your main destination, apply there. The visa will allow you to travel to all Schengen countries, including Croatia.
No. Short-stay Schengen visas are not extendable in normal circumstances. You must leave the Schengen area before your visa expires. If you have an emergency (e.g., medical), you can request an extension from local immigration authorities, but it's rare and only for force majeure.
As of 2026, the fee is €80 for adults (€90 if you apply via a service provider like VFS Global, which includes their service charge). Children aged 6–12 pay €40 (€45 with service fee). Children under 6 are free, but service charges may still apply. Fees are payable in Indian rupees at the current exchange rate at the application centre.
Yes. All Schengen visa applicants must provide biometric data (10 fingerprints and a digital photo) once every 59 months. If you've given biometrics for a previous Schengen visa within the last 5 years, you might not need to come in person. VFS Global centres will capture your biometrics during the appointment.
Yes, as long as Croatia is your main destination (longest stay) or your first point of entry. The visa is valid for the entire Schengen area. But be prepared to show your itinerary to border officers. If you plan to stay longer in another Schengen country, you should apply for that country's visa instead.
Overstaying a Schengen visa is taken seriously. You may be fined, banned from re-entering the Schengen area for up to 5 years, and it can affect future visa applications. If you have a genuine reason (e.g., flight cancellation), contact the local immigration police and request a formal extension before your visa expires.
