Indian passport holders can get a Visa on Arrival (VoA) when arriving in Indonesia in 2026. The fee is 500,000 IDR (about $35 USD) and lets you stay up to 30 days, with an option to extend once for another 30 days. Just show up at the airport, pay the fee, and you're set.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your full stay
At least 6 months validity beyond your entry date. Minimum 1 blank page for the entry stamp. Airlines may deny boarding if validity is too close.Required
Return or onward ticket
Officers check this regularly
A confirmed flight out of the country. Immigration may ask to see this — have a screenshot ready on your phone. An onward ticket from a neighbouring country also works.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel name or address
A hotel booking confirmation, or the address of where you are staying. The arrival form often asks for this. A Booking.com or Airbnb confirmation email is fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Rarely checked
Immigration officers may ask you to demonstrate sufficient funds for your stay. A credit card or bank statement usually suffices.Recommended
Cash is King at VoA Counters
You cannot pay the VoA fee by card or phone. Have 500,000 IDR in cash ready. If you pay in USD, you'll receive change in IDR at unfavorable rates. ATMs are after immigration, so you can't withdraw before paying.
Extension is Possible but Time-Sensitive
If you decide to extend your stay, apply at an immigration office before day 30. Overstaying even one day is subject to a fine of 1,000,000 IDR per day (approx $70/day). Don't delay.
Use the Online e-VoA to Skip the Queue
Apply for an e-VoA via molina.imigrasi.go.id up to 30 days before travel. It costs about 520,000 IDR total and gets you an approval letter. At arrival, go directly to the immigration counter without stopping at the VoA payment counter. Saves time, especially at busy airports like Bali.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the VoA Counter
After deplaning, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' or 'Immigration' before the main passport control. In Jakarta (CGK), Bali (DPS), and other major airports, there are dedicated counters. No need to fill any paper form beforehand.
2
Pay the Visa Fee
Present your passport and pay 500,000 IDR (or equivalent in USD/EUR – expect poor exchange rates if not using IDR). The officer will give you a receipt and a small sticker. Keep the receipt – you may need it for extension.
3
Get the VoA Sticker
The officer will affix the sticker to a blank page in your passport and stamp it with the entry date. This is your 30-day visa. Check the stamp says 'B1' or 'Visa on Arrival' and the expiry date.
4
Proceed to Passport Control
After VoA, go to the regular immigration counter. Hand over your passport (with the sticker) and your boarding pass. The officer may ask a couple of questions – just answer naturally. Get stamped in.
5
Collect Baggage and Clear Customs
Pick up luggage, then go through customs. Have your e-CD QR code ready (from the online declaration). In the green channel, they rarely ask, but if stopped, show your passport and form.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, you can extend once for an additional 30 days. Visit an immigration office (Kantor Imigrasi) before your first 30 days expire. The extension costs around 500,000 IDR and takes about 1-3 working days. You'll need to bring your passport, a recent photo, and the VoA receipt. After extension, you cannot extend again – total max stay is 60 days.
Indonesia offers VoA at all major international airports and seaports. The most common: Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta (CGK), Bali Ngurah Rai (DPS), Yogyakarta (YIA), Surabaya (SUB), Medan (KNO), Makassar (UPG), and ferry ports like Batam and Bintan. Always confirm your entry point is on the VoA list.
No, overland crossings (like from Timor-Leste or Malaysia) do not offer VoA. You must arrive by air or sea at an approved port. If coming overland, you need a visa from an Indonesian embassy beforehand.
Yes, Indonesia also offers an e-Visa on Arrival (e-VoA) for Indian passport holders. You can apply online at molina.imigrasi.go.id before travel. It costs the same 500,000 IDR plus a small processing fee. You get an approval letter by email, which you print and show at immigration. The e-VoA saves queuing at the VoA counter upon arrival.
The VoA + one extension gives 60 days max. For longer stays, you need a different visa type – such as a Social Cultural Visa (B211A) which allows up to 60 days extendable several times (max 6 months). Apply at an Indonesian embassy before travel.
No. VoA is strictly for tourism, transit, family visits, or short business meetings (like attending a conference). Any paid work, volunteering, or long-term activity requires a proper work visa. Violating this can get you fined, deported, and banned.
If you transit in the same airport and stay in the international transit zone, and your flight is within 24 hours, you don't need a visa. If you plan to leave the airport or have a long layover where you want to see the city, you need VoA.
