Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Required before travel
Apply for an Iraqi eVisa at the official portal before departure. The eVisa is valid for single entry and covers tourism and business visits. Processing takes 3–5 working days, so apply at least a week before your flight.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay
Your Indian passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry into Iraq. Airlines and immigration officers at Baghdad and Erbil airports enforce this strictly.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration at Iraqi airports will ask for proof of a return or onward flight. Have a printed or digital copy of your itinerary ready — they check this before stamping your passport.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to carry
Hotel booking confirmations or an invitation letter from your host in Iraq can speed up the immigration process. Officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you're a solo traveller.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to carry
Carry enough cash (USD is widely accepted) or a credit card to cover your stay. Immigration rarely asks for proof, but having it avoids delays if questioned.Recommended
Security situation
Iraq has areas with active conflict and high security risks. Check your government's travel advisories before booking. Avoid non-essential travel to regions near the borders with Syria and Iran.
eSIM is a lifesaver
Buy an Airalo eSIM before you fly. It activates as soon as you land, so you have data for maps, translation, and contacting your hotel without hunting for a local SIM.
