Indian passport holders can enter Rwanda without a visa for stays up to 30 days. This visa-free policy started in 2024, making travel straightforward for tourism, business, or transit. Just make sure your documents are in order before you fly.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your departure date from Rwanda
Your passport must have at least two blank pages for entry and exit stamps. Rwanda enforces the 6-month validity rule strictly — airlines check this at check-in. If your passport expires sooner, renew it before booking.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Rwanda
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. A flight booking within 30 days of arrival works. Without one, you risk being denied boarding or entry.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation letter
Have a printed or digital hotel reservation for your entire stay. If staying with friends or family, carry an invitation letter with their contact details and address. Officers rarely ask, but it smooths things if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Evidence of sufficient money for your stay
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing you can cover your expenses. Rwanda does not publish a fixed minimum, but having the equivalent of $200–$300 USD for a short trip is a safe benchmark.Recommended
Visa-free entry is automatic
No need to apply online or pay any fee. Just show up at the border with your valid passport and onward ticket. The 30-day stay starts from the day you enter.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Immigration officers will check that your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date. If it's close to expiry, renew before you travel.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Kigali International Airport
Most travellers fly into Kigali. After landing, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Arrivals'. There are separate queues for foreign nationals and Rwandan citizens. Join the foreign nationals line.
2
Present your documents at the immigration counter
Hand over your passport (with at least 6 months validity and 1 blank page), your return/onward ticket, and optionally your accommodation booking. The officer will check your details, take a photo, and stamp your passport. No visa fee is charged.
3
Collect your luggage and proceed to customs
After clearing immigration, head to baggage claim. Customs is usually straightforward — declare any items if required. Then exit into the arrivals hall.
