Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
You need an Albanian eVisa before you fly. Apply at the official portal — processing usually takes 3–5 working days. Print the approval email and keep a digital copy on your phone.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for entire stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the full duration of your stay in Albania. No minimum validity beyond departure is required by law, but airlines may enforce 3 months — check with your carrier.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of exit
Border officers at Tirana Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready — they check this before stamping you in.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Immigration may ask where you're staying. Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and phone number. A booking.com PDF works fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Officers can ask for evidence of sufficient funds — roughly €50–100 per day of stay. A bank statement or credit card with a decent limit usually satisfies them.Recommended
eVisa is electronic — no embassy visit needed
You apply entirely online from anywhere. No need to visit an Albanian embassy or consulate. The visa is linked to your passport number, so you don't need to mail anything.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you arrive in Albania, not from when you apply. If it's close to expiring, renew it before you apply for the eVisa.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Albanian eVisa website. Fill in your personal details, passport info, and travel dates. Upload a scanned copy of your passport bio page and a recent passport-style photo. Pay the fee with a credit or debit card. Processing usually takes 3–5 business days.
2
Receive your eVisa approval
You'll get an email with your eVisa approval. The visa is electronically linked to your passport — no sticker or paper needed. Still, save a PDF copy on your phone and print a backup just in case.
3
Arrive at any Albanian airport or land border
At Tirana International Airport (TIA) or any land border crossing, go to the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Hand over your passport. The officer will scan it and see your eVisa. They'll stamp your passport with the entry date. No separate visa window needed.
4
Show supporting documents if asked
Immigration officers may ask for your return ticket or accommodation booking. Have these ready on your phone or printed. Answer honestly about your plans — they're checking you're a genuine visitor.
