Icelandic passport holders can enter Kyrgyzstan without a visa for stays up to 60 days. This has been the case since 2024, and it applies to tourism, business, and transit. No need to apply in advance — just show up with your passport.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you're in Kyrgyzstan. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by Kyrgyz law, but airlines may ask for 6 months — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Kyrgyzstan
Immigration officers at Manas International Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready — they check this before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter from your host. Border officers rarely ask for it, but having it avoids delays if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Officers can ask for proof of sufficient funds — roughly $50 per day. A bank statement or credit card usually satisfies them, but I've never been asked in Bishkek.Recommended
No visa needed — but don't skip the basics
You don't need to apply for anything before you go, but immigration still checks your passport validity, onward ticket, and may ask where you're staying. Have those ready.
Overstaying is expensive
The 60-day limit is strict. Overstaying even a day can result in a fine and a note in your record. Set a reminder to leave a day or two early.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Manas International Airport (Bishkek) or Osh Airport
You'll go through immigration control. Join the queue for foreign passports. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
2
Present your passport and answer questions
The officer will check your passport validity, stamp it, and may ask about your stay. Common questions: 'How long are you staying?' and 'Where are you staying?' Answer clearly and briefly.
3
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, head to baggage claim, then customs. Green channel for nothing to declare, red channel if you have goods over the duty-free limit.

Frequently asked questions

No. The 60-day visa-free period is not extendable. If you want to stay longer, you must leave the country and re-enter, or apply for a visa in advance from a Kyrgyz embassy.
Overstaying is taken seriously. You'll likely face a fine (around 1,000–5,000 KGS, roughly $12–$60) and may be banned from re-entering for a period. Always leave on time.
No. For stays under 60 days, no registration is required. If you somehow get a longer visa (not possible visa-free), registration would be needed.

You'll be denied entry. The 6-month rule is strictly enforced. Renew your passport before traveling.
Not mandatory, but strongly recommended. Kyrgyzstan has limited medical facilities, especially outside Bishkek. A basic policy covering emergency evacuation and hospital stays is cheap insurance against a bad situation.
No. The visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, and transit only. For work or study, you need a proper visa or work permit arranged before arrival.
