Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended stay
Your passport must have at least two blank pages for entry and exit stamps. Uganda strictly enforces the 6-month validity rule — airlines check this at check-in.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Uganda
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. If you are overlanding to a neighboring country, have a bus or flight booking ready to show.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host. Officers rarely ask, but if they do, not having it can delay entry.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during the stay
Carry cash (USD is easiest) or a bank statement showing at least $200–$300 for a short trip. ATMs are available in Kampala but unreliable outside the capital.Recommended
eVisa is mandatory
There is no visa on arrival for Icelandic passport holders. You must apply and receive approval before you fly. Without it, you'll be denied boarding.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Uganda requires 6 months of passport validity from your entry date. Airlines check this at check-in. If your passport expires sooner, you won't be allowed to board.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Uganda eVisa website (visas.immigration.go.ug). Fill in your personal details, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Select your visa type (tourist, business, transit). Pay the fee online with a credit or debit card. Processing usually takes 3–5 working days, but can be faster.
2
Receive and print your eVisa approval
Once approved, you'll get an email with a PDF. Print a copy and also save it on your phone. You'll show this at check-in and on arrival.
3
Arrive at Entebbe International Airport
When you land at Entebbe (the main international airport), follow signs to immigration. Join the queue for 'Visitors' or 'Foreign Passports'. Have your passport, eVisa printout, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation ready. The officer will check your documents, take your fingerprints, and stamp you in.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, go to baggage claim, then customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. You're now in Uganda.
