Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for an Azerbaijan eVisa at evisa.gov.az at least 3 working days before departure. The eVisa costs $26 USD and is valid for a single entry up to 30 days. Print the approved eVisa and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your Italian passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your intended departure date from Azerbaijan. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Heydar Aliyev Airport ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready. Overland exits are also accepted, but a flight booking is the safest option.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Azerbaijan. Immigration may ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A simple booking confirmation works.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have a bank statement or credit card showing access to at least $200 USD per day of your stay. Officers rarely ask, but if you look underprepared, they may request proof. Cash in USD or euros is also accepted.Recommended
eVisa is mandatory — no visa on arrival
Italian passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival in Azerbaijan. You must apply and receive the eVisa before you travel. Without it, you'll be refused entry.
Register if staying over 15 days
If your trip is longer than 15 days, your hotel or host must register you with the migration authorities. Hotels do this automatically; if staying with friends, remind them.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Azerbaijan eVisa portal (evisa.gov.az). Fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport-style photo, and pay the fee. Processing takes up to 3 business days. You'll receive the eVisa by email.
2
Print or save your eVisa
Once approved, print a paper copy of the eVisa and also save a screenshot on your phone. You'll need to show it at the border.
3
Arrive at the airport in Azerbaijan
At Baku Heydar Aliyev International Airport, follow signs to 'Foreign Passports'. Present your passport, printed eVisa, and return ticket. The officer will stamp you in. The process usually takes 5–10 minutes.
4
Enjoy your stay
You can stay up to 30 days. The eVisa is single entry only — if you leave, you'll need a new one to re-enter.
