Italian passport holders need a visa to enter Kenya. You can apply online for an eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization) before you travel. As of 2026, the process is straightforward and usually takes a few days.

Apply early — don't wait until the last minute

What happens at the border

Apply for eTA online
Go to the official Kenya eTA website (etakenya.go.ke) and fill out the application. You'll need your passport details, flight info, and accommodation address. Pay the fee online. Processing usually takes 2-3 business days, but apply at least a week before your trip.

Receive eTA approval
You'll get an email with your eTA approval. Print a copy or save it on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and on arrival in Kenya.

Arrive at JKIA (Nairobi) or Mombasa Airport
After landing, follow signs to immigration. Have your passport, eTA approval, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation ready. The officer will stamp your passport and let you through. The whole process usually takes 15-30 minutes.

Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, collect your bags from the carousel. Then proceed to customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. Exit into the arrivals hall.
