Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your entire stay in Mauritius
Your Italian passport needs at least one blank page for the entry stamp. Mauritius does not enforce the 6-month validity rule — your passport just needs to be valid for the duration of your stay.Required
Return or onward ticket
Immigration officers check this at the border
You need a flight out of Mauritius within 90 days. Airlines at departure check this before issuing your boarding pass — have the booking confirmation ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have your hotel confirmation or a letter from your host ready. Immigration officers occasionally ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during the stay
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing access to funds. There is no fixed minimum amount, but around 100 USD per day is a safe benchmark if asked.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines check this before you board. If your passport expires within 6 months of your arrival date, you'll be denied boarding. No exceptions.
No visa, but have these ready
You don't need a visa, but immigration may ask for your return ticket and accommodation. Keep digital copies on your phone.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU)
You'll land at the main airport near Port Louis. Follow signs to 'Arrivals' and join the queue for 'Foreign Passports'.
2
Present your documents at immigration
Hand over your passport (with blank page), return ticket (screenshot or printed), and optionally your accommodation booking. The officer will check your passport validity and stamp you in.
3
Collect your luggage and proceed to customs
After the stamp, head to baggage claim. Customs is usually straightforward for tourists. You're free to exit after that.
