What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to evisa.kdmid.ru, fill in your details, upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around €50) and submit. Approval usually takes 4 days.
2
Book your travel and accommodation
Book a return flight and your first night's hotel. Keep confirmation emails and screenshots on your phone.
3
Arrive at Russian border control
At the airport, join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Hand over your passport and boarding pass. The officer will scan your passport and check your eVisa in their system. They may ask for your return ticket and hotel booking. Answer clearly. You'll get an entry stamp.
4
Register your stay (if staying more than 7 days)
If you're staying longer than 7 days, your hotel or host must register you with the local migration office within 7 days of arrival. If you're in a private apartment, the host must do this. Keep the registration slip — you'll need it to leave.
