Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for your Togo eVisa at evisa.gouv.tg at least 5 business days before departure. The eVisa is valid for 15 days and costs around 35,000 XOF (about €55). Print the approval email and carry it with your passport — immigration at Lomé Airport checks it before stamping you in.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover your entire stay
Your Italian passport needs at least one blank page for the entry stamp. Togo does not enforce a 6-month validity rule — just make sure it does not expire during your trip. Airlines flying into Lomé may still ask for 6 months, so check with your carrier.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration at Lomé Airport routinely asks for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a bus/ticket to a neighboring country ready. Overstaying your eVisa's 15-day validity can result in a fine of 10,000 XOF per day at the airport.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to carry
Hotel bookings or a letter of invitation from a host in Togo can speed things up if the officer asks where you are staying. A simple printout of your booking confirmation works — no need for notarized documents.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to carry
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing you can cover your stay. Immigration rarely asks for it, but having it ready avoids delays. A daily budget of around 50,000 XOF (about €75) is a safe benchmark.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccination is mandatory
Togo requires proof of yellow fever vaccination for all travellers. Show your yellow card at immigration. Without it, you may be denied entry or forced to get vaccinated at the airport, costing time and money.
Keep your eVisa accessible offline
Phone signal at Lomé Airport can be patchy. Save a PDF of your eVisa on your phone and carry a printed copy in your hand luggage.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to evisa.gouv.tg. Fill in your personal details, passport info, travel dates, and accommodation. Upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (35,000 XOF, about €55) by credit card. You'll receive a confirmation email.
2
Wait for approval
Processing takes 3–5 business days. Check your spam folder. Once approved, you'll get a PDF. Print a copy and save it on your phone.
3
Arrive at Lomé–Tokoin Airport
After landing, head to immigration. Present your passport, printed eVisa, and return ticket. They'll stamp your passport. The process takes 10–15 minutes if you have everything ready.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, pick up your bags from the carousel. Customs is usually a quick glance. Then you're free to leave the arrivals hall.
