What happens at the border

1
Arrive at a Russian airport
Fly into any international airport in Russia, such as Moscow Sheremetyevo (SVO), Domodedovo (DME), or St. Petersburg Pulkovo (LED). Follow the signs to 'Passport Control'.
2
Join the passport control queue
Wait in line for a border officer. Have your passport ready. There are separate queues for Russian citizens and foreigners — join the foreigners' line.
3
Present your passport
Hand over your passport. The officer will check it, possibly ask about your trip purpose and length of stay, and then stamp your passport with an entry stamp. This usually takes 1-2 minutes.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim, then go through customs (green channel if you have nothing to declare). You're now in Russia.

Yes, you can enter multiple times, but each stay must not exceed 30 days. There's no limit on the number of entries, but frequent back-to-back visits may raise questions at the border.
If you're staying at a hotel, they will register you automatically. If you're staying in private accommodation, your host must register you with the local migration office within 7 working days of your arrival. This is a legal requirement, though not always checked for short stays.
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your departure date. If it expires earlier, you'll be denied entry at the border. Make sure your passport is valid well beyond your planned departure.
No. The visa-free entry is for tourism, business visits, or private trips. Working in Russia requires a work visa and a work permit. If you plan to work, you must apply for the appropriate visa at a Russian embassy or consulate.
Overstaying can result in fines, deportation, and a ban from re-entering Russia for up to 3-5 years. If you realize you'll overstay, contact the local migration office before your visa-free period ends to discuss options.
If you're transiting through a Russian airport without leaving the international zone, you don't need a visa. But if you plan to leave the airport or stay overnight, the visa-free entry applies — you can stay up to 30 days.
