Sri Lanka entry requirements for Japan passport holders
Japanese passport holders can get a visa on arrival in Sri Lanka — no need to apply in advance. Just show up at Colombo (CMB) or other international airports with your passport and a return ticket. This policy is in effect for 2025.
Entry requirements
| Requirement | Details | Status |
|---|---|---|
| ETA application Electronic Travel Authorization | Apply for your ETA at eta.gov.lk before departure. The system issues approval within minutes for most nationalities. Print the approval email or save it on your phone — immigration officers at Colombo airport will ask to see it.Apply for ETA | Required |
| Valid passport Must cover your entire stay | Your passport needs at least one blank page for the entry stamp. Sri Lanka does not enforce the 6-month validity rule — your passport just needs to be valid for the duration of your stay. | Required |
| Return or onward ticket Proof of departure | Immigration at Bandaranaike International Airport routinely asks for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Airlines also check this before boarding. Have a printed copy or a clear screenshot on your phone. | Required |
| Proof of accommodation Hotel booking or invitation letter | Officers sometimes ask for a hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host. A printed booking confirmation from Booking.com or Agoda works fine. | Recommended |
| Proof of funds Show you can support yourself | Carry at least $50 USD per day in cash or have a bank statement ready. Immigration rarely checks this for short stays, but it helps to have proof if asked. | Recommended |
