Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Kenyan passport must be valid for at least the full 60 days you plan to stay in Ghana. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Ghana
Immigration officers at Kotoka International Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready — they check this before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Keep a copy of your hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host. Officers occasionally ask for it, especially if you're staying longer than a few weeks.Recommended
Proof of funds
Evidence of sufficient money for your stay
Carry bank statements or a credit card showing you can support yourself. Ghana doesn't enforce a fixed minimum, but having $500–$1,000 available per month of stay avoids any questions.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine is mandatory
Ghana requires proof of yellow fever vaccination for all travelers. You must carry your yellow card — immigration may ask to see it. Get the vaccine at least 10 days before travel.
No visa, but have your documents ready
Even though you don't need a visa, immigration officers may ask for your return ticket, hotel booking, and proof of funds. Keep digital copies on your phone and a printed backup in your bag.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Kotoka International Airport (ACC)
Most travelers fly into Accra. After deplaning, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Passport Control'. There are separate queues for Ghanaian citizens and foreigners — join the foreigner queue.
2
Present your passport and documents
Hand over your passport (with a blank page) and your return/onward ticket. The officer may ask your purpose of visit, where you're staying, and how long you plan to stay. Answer clearly. They'll stamp you in — the stamp shows your entry date and allowed stay (60 days).
3
Collect your luggage and proceed to customs
After immigration, go to baggage claim, then walk through customs. There's usually a green channel for nothing to declare and a red channel for goods over the duty-free limit. If you have nothing to declare, go green.
