Kenyan passport holders can visit Lesotho without a visa for up to 90 days. This policy has been in place since at least 2025, so no visa application is needed for short stays. Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months from your date of entry.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for at least the length of your stay in Lesotho. Airlines at JKIA check this before boarding — they won't let you fly if your passport expires before you leave Lesotho.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Lesotho
Immigration officers at Moshoeshoe I International Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound flight ready — they check this before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Lesotho. Officers occasionally ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have bank statements or a credit card ready to show you have enough money for your trip. Lesotho doesn't publish a fixed minimum, but around $50 USD per day is a safe benchmark.Recommended
Land border crossings can be slow
If entering by road from South Africa, expect delays of 30 minutes to 2 hours at peak times (weekends, holidays). Have your documents ready and be patient.
No visa extensions — plan your exit
The 90-day visa-free stay cannot be extended. Overstaying can result in fines or being barred from re-entry. Set a reminder to leave on time.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Moshoeshoe I International Airport (Maseru)
Most travellers fly into Maseru. After landing, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Passport Control'. There's usually one queue for all foreign nationals.
2
Present your passport and supporting documents
Hand over your passport (with at least 6 months validity and a blank page). The officer may ask for your return ticket and accommodation details. Have them ready on your phone or printed.
3
Get your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry and the allowed stay (usually 90 days). Check the stamp before walking away. If anything looks off, ask politely.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, head to baggage claim, then customs. There's usually nothing to declare for personal items. Exit into the arrivals hall.
