Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for a Chad eVisa at e-visa.td before departure. Processing takes 2–5 business days — do not wait until the last minute. Print the approval email and carry it with your passport; immigration at N'Djamena will ask to see both.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of stay
Your Kenyan passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Chad. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of exit from Chad
Immigration at N'Djamena airport routinely asks for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or a digital version on your phone ready — a bus or flight booking to a neighboring country works.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Chad. Immigration officers may ask where you are staying — having a booking reference speeds things up.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have bank statements or a credit card showing access to at least 500,000 XAF (roughly $850 USD). Officers rarely ask, but if they do, you need to show you can cover your stay.Recommended
Visa required — no exceptions
Kenyan passport holders cannot enter Chad without an approved e-visa. There is no visa on arrival, no visa at the border. Apply at e-visa.td at least two weeks before your trip.
Health entry requirement
You must show proof of yellow fever vaccination (the yellow card) upon arrival. Without it, you may be denied entry or forced to get vaccinated at the airport at your own expense.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for e-visa online
Go to e-visa.td, create an account, fill in your personal and travel details, upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $100–$150 depending on visa type) and submit. Processing takes 5–14 days. You'll receive an approval PDF by email.
2
Print your visa approval
Print the PDF approval letter. Also save a copy on your phone as backup. You'll need to show it at check-in and on arrival in N'Djamena.
3
Arrive at N'Djamena International Airport
After landing, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Visa on Arrival' (even though you have a visa). Present your passport, printed visa approval, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation. An officer may ask a few questions about your stay. They'll stamp your passport — keep the visa page safe.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, collect your bags from the carousel. There's usually a customs check — declare any expensive electronics or large amounts of cash. Then you're free to exit the arrivals hall.
