Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your full stay
At least 6 months validity beyond your entry date. Minimum 1 blank page for the entry stamp. Airlines may deny boarding if validity is too close.Required
Return or onward ticket
Officers check this regularly
A confirmed flight out of the country. Immigration may ask to see this — have a screenshot ready on your phone. An onward ticket from a neighbouring country also works.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel name or address
A hotel booking confirmation, or the address of where you are staying. The arrival form often asks for this. A Booking.com or Airbnb confirmation email is fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Rarely checked
Immigration officers may ask you to demonstrate sufficient funds for your stay. A credit card or bank statement usually suffices.Recommended
No visa-on-arrival — apply early
Kenyan passport holders cannot get a visa at the airport. The e-visa must be approved before you fly. Apply at least 7 days before departure to avoid last-minute stress.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save your visa PDF, return ticket, and accommodation booking on your phone. Screenshots work fine and are faster to show than digging through emails.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the e-visa online
Go to the official Ukrainian e-visa website (evisa.gov.ua/en). Fill in your personal details, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $20-30 USD depending on processing speed). Submit and wait for approval — typically 3-7 business days.
2
Print or save your visa approval
Once approved, you'll receive a PDF. Print a copy and also save it on your phone. Border officers at Kyiv Boryspil or Lviv airports will ask to see it before they stamp your passport.
3
Prepare your documents for immigration
At the immigration counter, hand over your passport, visa approval, return ticket (screenshot is fine), and accommodation booking. They may ask a few questions — 'How long are you staying?', 'Where are you staying?' — answer calmly. The whole process takes 2-5 minutes.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After clearing immigration, head to baggage claim, then customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. Then you're free to go.
